About The Event
A circular walk, incorporating part of the Offa’s Dyke Path, including a visit to the visitor centre at Trevor Basin, an elevated canal section along the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, and a 170m section through a tunnel on a canal towpath (torch advised).
Bring a packed lunch, or buy refreshments at Trevor Basin
Book a return ticket to Chirk.
Meet at 10:00 for the 10:08 train to Chirk, Platform 2 Wellington Railway Station.
This event is part of both Heritage Open Days, because of the stunning architecture of the aqueducts and tunnels, and Railway 200, because of the chance to see closely the Chirk Railway Viaduct, This latter was designed by Henry Robertson, and built between 1846 and 1848 . It is a significant historical structure on the Shrewsbury and Chester Railway. It runs parallel to the Chirk Aqueduct from which we will get a good view. We will also …
