5 | *The Shropshire Tub Boat Canal and its mineral cargoes* | The Shropshire Tub Boat Canal system was built in the second half of the 18th century to serve the particular needs of the burgeoning iron and coal trade. It carried mined products from the upper levels of the Ironbridge Gorge to the then flourishing River Severn trows at Coalport via the Coalport Inclined Plane.
